30 Hour Famine
February 25, 2008 — mattoaks
This weekend, the youth of Hubbard Nazarene participated in World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine. Students raise money for World Vision, and then spend 30 hours without food. With pledges still coming in, our students raised over $1000, with almost $500 more still to be collected. On top of that, the government gives $4 for every $1 raised. All in all, from our church and the government, we were able to raise $6,000. That’s enough to feed 6000 kids for one day. Or 3000 kids for 2 days. or 1500 kids for 4 days. Or 750 kids for 8 days. Or 375 kids for 16 days. Or…well anyway, you get the picture.
The seven church’s in city of Hubbard that are involved with HYM(Hubbard Youth Ministries) raised over $3000 dollars! After the government is done with that, that will be an amazing $12,000. You can make a difference also, just go to World Vision’s website and make a donation.
Not only, did we raise awareness for hungry in the community, but we also connected the churches of Hubbard together. Throughout our 30 foodless hours, we volunteered at local organizations. I had the opportunity to help out the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley. Myself and 20 others, helped sort clothes, wash walls, sweep, and wash windows. Also, we were able to help the local food pantry stock it’s shelves with necessary items during our Scavenger Hunt/Supermarket Sweep.
What did you did this weekend?
